Believe You Have Power
From Pastor Cristy Olof
Thanks to my sister, I recently started watching House of David on Prime Video. I highly recommend watching the 2 seasons available. I am so encouraged by the faith of David portrayed in this show that is only confirmed in Scripture:
Here are 5 Bible scriptures that clearly show David believed his strength, authority, and power came from the Lord, not from himself. I’ve included a brief explanation with each verse to show how it reflects David’s faith.
1 Samuel 17:45–47 (David and Goliath)
“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts… the battle is the LORD’s.”
David openly declares that his power to defeat Goliath comes from the Lord’s name and ownership of the battle, not weapons or human strength.
Psalm 18:2
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer… my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
David credits all his protection and strength to God, viewing the Lord as the source of his power and security.
Psalm 18:32–34
“It is God who arms me with strength… He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.”
David explicitly says God gives him strength and military ability, showing he believes his power is God-given.
Psalm 44:6–7
“For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our enemies.”
David rejects confidence in weapons and places his trust in God as the true source of victory.
Psalm 20:6–7
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”
David contrasts worldly power with spiritual authority that comes from calling on the Lord.
David consistently believed that power comes from God’s presence, not personal ability. He knew that victory belongs to the Lord, not weapons. His confidence in God gives courage, authority, and strength!
What would you be able to do if you just believed like David?
