From The Beginning it Was Not So
From Elder Mike Harris
Mark 10:
2. And the Pharisees came to Him, and asked Him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting Him.
3. And He answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4. And they said, Moses suffered (to permit, allow, give leave) to write a bill of divorcement, and put her away.
5. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart (unforgiveness) he wrote you this precept (a prescribed rule in accordance with which a thing is done).
6. But from the beginning of creation God MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE.
7. FOR THIS CAUSE SHALL A MAN LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, AND CLEAVE (to glue upon) TO HIS WIFE.
8. AND THEY TWAIN SHALL BE ONE FLESH: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10. And in the house His disciples asked Him of the same matter.
11. And He saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Many things in our society, as well as in Jewish tradition, are "legal," but they do not line up with God's intention for our lives. Why are we always looking for loopholes and trying to see how close to the edge we can walk without falling into the fire? Why not walk in the Righteousness and Holiness God has provided for us through the life, death, burial, and Resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ?
If you are thinking of getting divorced, please reconsider. God is able to heal and restore anything. Nothing is too difficult for Him. We have help at The Rock for you. Just ask. Remember, God said that if we from our heart will not forgive everyone their trespasses, neither will God forgive us.
