The Discovery Bible Study Process
From Pastor Tim Olof
The Discovery Bible Study (DBS) process is beneficial for large groups and can even be applied when reading Scripture by yourself.
These questions to this process consist of:
What are you thankful for?
What is a stress or need in your life?
What is a stress or need in your community?
How can this group help?
Who did you discuss last week’s passage with? How did it go?
How did you do with last week’s ‘I will’ statement?
The above questions create worship (thankfulness) and service (need in the community).
After reading the Scripture, ask yourself these questions:
What does this passage say about God?
What does this passage say about people?
What must I do to obey this passage?
The foundation of the last 3 questions is to become obedient to what the Scriptures tell you to do by hearing the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures. This process encourages hearing God and being obedient to what He is telling you to do.
I ask you to read the Scripture below and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into obedience of whatever He is telling you to do.
Matthew 21:12-16
Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise’?”
May we become obedient to the Word of God.
