Consider This

God has certain topics He wants us to focus on, to think about, to consider. In intercession today, we were handed sticky notes with a verse on each note, and they were placed on our chairs when we arrived. Pastor Tim had chosen multiple Scriptures for us to read and then pray over the church about concerning those particular Scriptures. My note said "Hebrews 10:24," and even though this is the first part of a complete sentence, it certainly can stand alone in power!
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,"
Looking to the interests of others is how we can care for and consider one another. The question is not only “What do I need?” but “What does my brother or sister need?” We often focus on our own feelings, interests, and desires; however, God calls us to uphold a higher standard. We should think of ways to encourage and “stir up one another to love and good works.” To “stir up” others means to ignite a fire within them to follow Christ’s example.
The wording of "stir up" is strong. It is “A striking term meaning ‘incitement’ and is either used, as here, in a good sense or, as in Acts 15:39, in a bad sense (i.e. contention). It seems to suggest that loving one another will not just happen.” (Guthrie) WOW! In other words, we need to be intentional if we are to be the spoon who stirs.
I asked God to help us not focus only on ourselves, but to consider others and be like Christ in caring for people and stirring up love and good works. It certainly has a rippling effect when someone shows kindness, concern, or care. Be that person!
