The Importance of Making Room for The Holy Spirit

From Jennifer Diaz

In the busyness of life, it is easy to spend time doing things for God while neglecting time simply being with God.

We can attend church, serve, worship, read our Bible, and be involved in ministry yet still need to slow down and intentionally spend time in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is not just someone we talk about at church. He is God living within us. He wants to lead us, teach us, correct us, comfort us, and speak to our hearts.

Jesus said:

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.”
John 14:16 NLT

Paul reminds us:

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”
Romans 8:14 NLT

And Galatians tells us:

“Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.”
Galatians 5:16 NLT

What does this look like practically?

Sometimes it simply means turning off the noise.

Before reaching for our phone in the morning, we can sit quietly and say:

“Holy Spirit, I’m here. Speak to me. Show me what You want me to see today. Lead me in what I should say, where I should go, and how I should respond.”

Then we listen.

We don’t always need another sermon, another song, or another person’s opinion. Sometimes we need quiet time with the One who already lives inside of us.

My encouragement this week is simple:

Don’t just make time for church. Make time for the Holy Spirit.

Because the presence of God shouldn’t only be something we experience on Sunday; it should be the place we learn to live from every day.
