Though I Was His Enemy
From Yara Armenta
There are many times as a Christian where it is hard to comprehend the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross.
There was a show I watched where a character depicted to be a villain at the beginning, is shown grace and love which caused him to change his outlook on life.
Though a bit kid-ish, I’d like to think that this monologue is deeper when applied to Christianity.
The line that stood out to me the most was when this character said, “I was his enemy, yet still he cried for me and he called me his friend…”. What a beautiful reflection from this character that I know is overwhelming to one as we accept Jesus in our life.
Paul says in Romans 5:10, “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life” (NKJV). Though we were sinning and turning away from God, He saw our purpose and the lives we would touch, and in a gentle manner, pursued each of us. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we find a new family, an inheritance, and a Godly perspective in life. What a blessing and a reason to rejoice!
So yes, we were enemies, but as the Bible states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV). Like the character from the show, we are drastically different when God shows His love, grace, and compassion towards us. The tears, beatings, and bloodshed Jesus willingly suffered for us should encourage us to worship Him, to love our neighbor, and make disciples in our communities. Though I was His enemy, He still died and resurrected on the cross for me.
