He Is

From Yara Armenta

During hardships it can be difficult to truly believe that God is a powerful God

There is a song that I recently listened to that speaks about Jesus’ life and the difficulties He went through during the crucifixion. This song has snippets from The Passion of the Christ when the crowd tells Him to lower Himself from the cross if He truly is God’s Son as stated in Matthew 27:40

I began to reflect on moments when I expected God to show His power only because it would liberate me from difficult moments, hard to process emotions, or even to strengthen my faith. There are moments when we become the crowd, “God, if you truly are all powerful, then heal, liberate, bring back, etc […].” The Bible speaks about testing God, and Jesus even quotes Deuteronomy 6:16 in Matthew 4:7, which states, “Jesus said to him, ‘It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’”. During The Rock’s 25Below Young Adult’s Group, there was a prompt question which asked, “What is your heart posture when asking God for a miracle? Are you asking because you are selfishly not wanting to be inconvenienced or do you really want it to be for God’s glory?” God does not owe us and He does not need to show us who He is, for being a Christian requires faith.

Even then God is loving and understanding enough to still bring us comfort and peace when we do question who He is. The song “Who Else” has a lyric that perfectly describes the biggest act of who God is, “Righteous One who shed His blood, to prove to us the Father’s love […].” God is who He said He was, is, and is to come. Even in the season of doubt, God remains who He is and I am so thankful for His faithfulness towards us.
