Her Faith

I want to bring attention to a story found in Mark 5:25-34 because I think it is fascinating. The story is about the woman with the issue of blood and how she received her healing. This woman had a condition that the Bible calls an issue of blood, or a chronic bleeding that made her unclean. As a result, she was not allowed to be in public places. She spent all the money she had on doctors but only grew worse.
This woman wanted to be healed from this condition and had heard about Jesus and how He could heal all kinds of diseases and maladies to the body. Her faith was stimulated as she then said, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” This is one fascinating part of the story. This woman came up with her own requirement to receive her healing. Surely, being driven by her condition, she determined that all she needed to do was to touch His clothes. Where did she hear that THAT would work?? Unless I’m missing some obscure healing or miracle, Jesus always healed or delivered people while consciously ministering to them. Whether speaking to them, laying hands on them, speaking to them from afar, or even unconventional means like putting mud in a man’s eyes, Jesus addressed everyone directly. But this woman thought it proper to sneak up behind Him and touch His garment without Him knowing. We don’t know exactly what she heard about Jesus, only that she heard about Him. She had no precedent for this.
The story continues and says that when she touched His clothes immediately, the bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was really healed. Now Jesus felt power go out of Him and turned about in the throng of people and asked who had touched His clothes. He spotted her that did it. She was scared and explained everything to Him, especially that she was healed. Jesus concluded the story by telling her that HER FAITH made here whole. The most fascinating part of this story is that Jesus said HER FAITH made her whole. We know that power went into her body because the Bible says Jesus felt it go out. So did the power make her whole?? Well of course it did, but Jesus said HER FAITH made here whole.
The thing she believed she had to do to get healed, that self-imposed requirement, pulled the power out of Jesus when she did what she believed she had to do. Is there something unique you believe you have to do to get your blessing, whatever that blessing is? If I can just … I will
